WHY DOES MY PURCHASE NOT THE SAME AS WHAT IS PICTURED?
Our designs amplify the beauty of nature, each being unique on its own. Whilst we endeavour to make each piece similar to the images on screen, there will be variations due to the natural material used and each piece being hand crafted.
WHY IS THE WAX CRACKING?
This is a normal behaviour of the wax. As it heats and cools, the wax
contracts, and when this happens, the wax can crack. This can occur
during the making process or after a burn. Cracks should not be a concern, however, larger cracks will risk the candle to leak, so it is always
advised to have the candle placed on a surface in which the wax can drip on.
WHY IS MY CANDLE TURNING YELLOW?
We do not add chemicals or UV inhibitors to our candles as these chemicals are harsh and unnatural. Fragrance oils will alter the colour of the wax, some more
than others. Fragrances with vanillin will cause the wax to gradually turn yellow over time particularly if left exposed to direct or indirect light. We
suggest storing your candle in a cool dark place. The colour changes in the wax will not affect the burn performance.
CAN THE PILLAR CANDLE BE REUSED AFTER IT HAS FINISHED?
We encourage our customers who are conscience of wastage to reuse the candle as a candle holder by not allowing the candle to burn too closely to the rim.
This will allow the candle to burn in and contain the wax pool within the wax. Whilst this cannot be guaranteed due to the natural materials' unpredictable behaviours, we can only advise what had worked for us.
1) leave AT LEAST 10mm of wax rim from each burn (we recommend 15mm.
2) Burn no more than 3 hours
for each burn, long burn will soften the wax rim.
3) Never burn with a long
wick.
4) Do not allow the candle to cool too quickly, limiting the risk of wax cracking.
WHY IS MY CANDLE DRIPPING WAX?
Pillar candles will always a chance of wax dripping. A dripping candle can have a number of causes but all these issues can be easily remedied; it's just a
matter of determining the cause and knowing the solution.
1. Draught - A strong draught can cause molten wax from the wax pool to get blown over the
sides of the candle. Eliminate the source of the draught, move the candle out of the draught or shield the candle from the draught.
2. Proximity - If the candle is too close to other candles, this can cause irregular melting
and warping. Place lit candles at least 10cm (3 inches) apart to avoid melting and warping due to heat from neighbouring candles.
3. Slant - It could be that your candle has been placed at an angle - make sure the candle
is standing up straight.
4. Burn time - When you first light your candle, burn your candle for around 3-4 hours; you want to get close to the edges to avoid tunnelling, but you don't want to melt through the edge. After the first burn, avoid burning your candle for longer than 4 hours; extinguish, let the candle cool down, trim the wick, and relight.
If you burn longer than 3-4 hours the walls of the pillar become soft and thin, which may cause wax to drip.
5. Wick - If you notice your candle wick leaning to one side, it could be that the wick is too long, causing a large, flickering and unstable flame. Extinguish the
flame, let the candle cool, trim the wick down to 6mm (¼ inch) and relight. If the wick is leaning to one side it may cause the candle to burn off centre, which may cause wax to leak over the side.
Hopefully this helps you prevent your candle from dripping. As you see, most of the causes can be easily fixed and avoided, and if they cannot then it's more likely
a symptom of a poor quality candle (low quality wax, incorrect wick size or positioning, poor make quality) rather than incorrect use of the candle.
